This is the flagship wine of Escorihuela Gascón, a powerhouse from Mendoza that has been in business since 1884. As one of the top 10 exporters of Argentine wine, Escorihuela Gascón is one of the country’s leading wineries and has received numerous awards over the years, particularly for its Malbec wines.
The DON Malbec has an intense nose of plums, ripe strawberries and black and blue hedgerow fruit. Secondary aromas of cocoa, oak, leather and vanilla hover in the background, coming from 16 months of aging in French oak barrels. The grapes were harvested from a single plot of vines at El Cepillo Vineyard, in the heart of the Uco Valley
The wine has a round and velvety texture, with fine-grained tannins and a sharp acidity. Hints of raspberry and strawberry jam appear on the long finish, with a bitter touch of oak.
Food pairing: DON can mature for a long time in the cellar and is ideal for pairing with rich, smoky meats, barbecue dishes or mature cheeses.
